I wouldn't regard vinyl siding as permanent, or attractive. A better choice would be cement-based siding such as Hardiplank. Add extra rigid foam insulation (1-1/2" minimum) before you install the new siding.

What about aluminum products for more contemporary/modern homes? Products like Luxyclad that are made from architectural grade aluminum and finished to look like wood. These products initially cost a bit more but the return on not having any maintenance makes them worth every penny and they look much better ;)www.luxyclad.com

My home's siding is looking a little worn on one part and a little warped on another. Thanks for listing some of the most common materials like how vinyl comes into a lot of different textures and colors. I'll have to find someone who could install some new siding like that for me. http://www.psames.com/en/home_improvement__remodeling/
