John, Thanks for taking your time explaining this... I thought they might have used some sort of membrane but wasn't sure how that would stick to the tub.. This explains it pretty well. Thanks again. And I would love to see more pics!

Your welcome - I said "Careful not to leave a tip under the waterproofing" - this should read "Careful not to leave a DIP under the waterproofing". A dip will form a puddle. Puddles are slow to drain so having a pitch from the wall to the tub is key.

Thanks for this tip as I am in the same boat of wanting access to the water but the clean look of glass. Does this alternative keep the water in the tub? When you swing the door open after a shower is it a pain to keep wiping the floor with a dripping shower door?

I don't have trouble keeping water in the tub.
There's minimal overspray from the shower. Clean up is a cinch.

Hi! We went with a Calcutta Gold Marble Mosaic Tile floor from Waterworks. Home Depot has a similar product, if you want to take a look there!

Well done! This is a very handsome bathroom!
Is the material used around the sink a type of marble? It's beautiful!

Kinda hard to tell since it's an undermount tub with a marble deck and wood facing...
...any undermount tub could be fitted out similarly.

Most folks only have space for a tub/shower combo - so having separate is a definite luxury....
...but I hear so frequently that folks who have separate hardly ever use the tub that it rarely makes sense to spend the money to have both.
