I still vote Calacutta or Cararra.....would be really surprised to learn it's Statuary. It can't compete in my opinion with the other two. This fireplace is a work of art! Wish the contractor or the builder who did it would tell us for sure. Another alternative is to print the picture and take it to your stone source.....they'll be able to tell you/show you which one it is if they know anything about the stone. Also, Houzz had a "discussion" article on which is which .....that may help someone.

If the surround is White Carrara, that's the most beautiful White Carrara slab I ever seen. White Carrara usually doesn't have this kind of veins. Looks like a marvelous great job

I would recommend you hire a professional stone installer - this is a very specialized install.

The answer is not detailed at all! We like this look too but worrying about heaviness of material and safety because of that. That is very obviously will be professional installers. Who can do it them-self?

No, because the fireplace is built into this wall. A free standing fireplace would be something that sits by itself, say in the middle of a room, similar to a gas stove almost.

This is absolutely gorgeous, it completely makes the space and I am such a sucker for both Carrara and Calacatta marble!

    What Houzz contributors are saying:

Leslie Reichert added this to How to Clean Your Fireplace SurroundNov 20, 2017

After wiping the marble surround with a dry microfiber cloth, dip the cloth in warm distilled water. Wipe the damp cloth on an inconspicuous area of the marble surround to ensure the distilled water doesn’t have any minerals that can damage the marble. If the soot does not come off with the distilled water, try using a cleaner specifically designed for cleaning marble.

Marble. The quintessential modern living room would not be complete without a dramatic all-white Carrara marble fireplace.Design tip: Should you desire a touch more flair, the mill can book match your stone — that is, put all the veins of the marble to form a design.

Calacatta: A slab with dramatic gray veining makes a stunning fireplace surround. Calacatta is rarer than Carrara and is considered a luxury stone.

A marble wall keeps the space feeling cool enough to carry out the thought of an indoor fire. Crank the a/c if anybody questions you once it's lit, as many people don't put "fireplace" and "90-degree weather" in the same sentence.

We automatically associate marble with kitchen or bathrooms, but why not your fireplace cladding for a dramatic effect, too? More: Cararra vs. Calacatta Marble: What's the Difference? Browse: Photos of marble in home design Products featuring marble for the home

This gorgeous hunk of marble sets the tone for the entire room–clean lines, and a palette of white and shades of soft gray.
