The sliding barn door hardware in the photo is Classic Flat Track from Real Sliding Hardware. It can support doors up to 400lbs and can be used indoors and out. We also design custom sliding, swing-out and entry doors. Keep us in mind for your next project!

We would not recommend this exact solution for a cold climate location. Perhaps a local manufacturer has a good solution for how to properly weatherstrip these types of doors for your particular climate.

Love, love this picture! However, for the MT and MI folks, I just don't think they would be an option--you could not get enough of a seal from our experience. We are located in Idaho and produce both track and doors (which we ship all over the US and Canada) like these and would never recommend them to someone for an exterior door in geo areas that get weather. Perhaps on a pantry or as a room divider to get the look without the draft.....

Where can we find the answer to the weather and security issues with these gorgeous doors?
  • PRO
    Post Frame Accessories
There are several ways to make sliding doors like these weather resistant. With the particular hardware used (which is very similar to a style we carry) it is very hard to make them efficiently weather-tight. However, we offer different style hardware on our website: http://www.postframeaccessories.com/track.html that uses trolleys that allow adjustment of the door to bring it closer to the wall for a tighter seal.

To really ensure the doors prevent weather, bugs etc, from coming in, our door frame sections can have attachments order that work like weatherstripping on a regular door.

I cannot answer the question about where the doors come from, but odds are they can be made by most door manufacturers.

We do however, offer this type of hardware and have a vendor that can make custom doors.

Your question cut off however I think you're asking how they seal. The climate of this area is very temperate so this issue is perhaps minimized relative to where you might be. The doors run in a track in the floor and have a seal around the opening.

The 15 percent fee typically covers full architectural services or the drawings required to get everything you want in your home and have it all worked out before construction begins. With this approach, you pay more upfront but have fewer surprise costs during construction. If you want your house to look like your favorite images on Houzz, you probably want this level of service. The main thing to remember is that there are different levels of service. When securing competitive bids, ask what services are included — and excluded — in the firm’s fee, so you are comparing apples to apples.

                      1. Create a focal point with glass-paned barn doors. Go glamorous with the barn door trend by installing glass-paned barn-style sliding doors across one kitchen wall. The ample expanses of glass will let in light and views, and the doors themselves will provide a beautiful focal point, even after the sun goes down.
