Just a Fabulous Place to call HomeTraditional Landscape, Chicago

After removing an outdated circle drive and overgrown plantings, our team reconfigured the drive and installed a full-range color bluestone walk to clearly emphasize the main door over the side entry.

    Brenda,

Thank you for passing on the shutter color! My wife and I live in Oklahoma and we are absolutely in love with the colors on this house. Could you give us the exterior colors! We've been struggling for two years to put the right colors together and we have very similar brick color.

    Thank you,
    Thad & Dana

Hi Thad and Dana, I'm sorry that I'm just now seeing your question. I haven't been on here for a while! The only color I can give you is the shutter and front door color which is Mountain Moss by Benjamin Moore. The other colors are custom colors made by our painters. The brick is a warm neutral tumbled oversized brick by Pine Hall. It's called Chesapeake Pearl. Do an image search for the brick and you'll get plenty of photos to get ideas from. Good luck!

The siding is cedar, stained in a custom color made especially to compliment the brick

Is this magnifique? If not please tell me what plan it is? It is fabulous! If you don't mind would you have a rough cost estimate?

Can anyone tell me what color is above the entryway? I know that there are a lot of custom colors on this house, but is there any color that would be close to what is above the entryway?
  • Brenda
The only stock paint used was for the shutters (Benjamin Moore, Mountain Moss). The rest are all custom mixed colors.

    Hi Linda,

This home is fabulous, right? The brick is from Pine hall. It is Chesapeake Pearl oversized.

Hope this helps with your home project!

Thanks for your question. This walkway is constructed of full color bluestone. The stone has been cut into squares and rectangles and laid in a random pattern. The edges of the stones were cut to create the curves in the walk. We think it turned out fabulous too!

We have included Juddi Viburnum, Glencoe Boxwood, Dense Yew, Annabelle Hydrangea, Prairiefire Flowering Crab, Serviceberry, Liriope, Pachysandra and Wave Petunias. The roof is cedar shingles. They were cleaned and preserved three years ago, which gives it a different patina than natural.

    Hi Laura,

We agree it is a gorgeous home! This home faces west so most of the plantings are in full sun. The largest plants centered between the window and on the left edge of the home are ornamental trees. The Serviceberry will grow about 15-18' tall. It blooms white in early spring and can be planted in the sun or shade. Good luck with your project!

    Hi Tracy,

Thank you for your interest in our project. We are the Landscape Architects and Contractors for this home so I can only give you general information on the homes architecture. The woodwork on the home is cedar. The trim is stained a lighter color than the siding or shutters. The paint color is custom blended by the painter. The garage doors are painted to match the trim color. Hope this helps with your project!

    Best,

    Bob

Thank you for your interest in our project! The ornamental tree is a Shadblow, Amelancihier grandiflora. It has a fabulous white bloom in April, edible fruit in July and brilliant fall color.

Matt Clawson added this to No Substitute for the Natural Beauty of Wooden Roof Shingles and ShakesJul 10, 2015

CostInstalled wood shingles go for about $500 to $900 per roofer’s square (a roofer’s square equals 100 square feet of roofing). A shake roof will typically cost $700 to $1,200 per roofer’s square installed. Other factors affecting the cost include the region, the roof’s pitch and architectural details, and the material selected. An asphalt roof can be installed for as little as $200 per roofer’s square, so the cost of installing a natural wood shingle or shake roof is more than twice that for asphalt shingles, and possibly much more. The cost of wood roofs is close to the cost of concrete tile roofs, and considerably less than authentic clay or slate tile roofs.
