10) When the playroom extends into the rest of the house, keep everything portable. That is to say, have shelves, trunks, baskets, etc. so that toys can be enjoyed all over the house but easily neatened up and put away.

Bright colors are kid-friendly, but also perfect for risk-taking adults. I love this orange-and-blue combination. This design also makes the most of the wall space, adding (attractive) bits of storage via bookshelves wherever there's a free spot.
