Example of a transitional light wood floor living room library design in London with gray walls

Antique white kitchen cabinets with pewter glaze surround adventurous crackle glass, creamy African Tobacco Granite, and a 6" wedge of glass mosaic embedded with smoky quartz rhinestones. This eclectic, very feminine palette, is anchored by the more masculine stone-like grey porcelain wall tile set on the diagonal and professional grade stainless appliances.

The Coventry Tobacco King Sleigh Bed uses traditional design for a furnishing of grandiose proportions. An elaborate acanthus leaf carving and rocaille moldings pay homage to 18th-century architectural style. Its button-tufted upholstered headboard adds comfort and luxury, for bedroom furniture worthy of royalty. This antique-styled bed has a dignified air that will transport your bedroom back to the Europe of an earlier era.

The most notable design element is the exceptional use of reclaimed wood throughout almost every design component. Sourced from not only one, but two different Indiana barns, this hand hewn and rough sawn wood is used in a variety of applications including custom cabinetry with a white glaze finish, dark stained window casing, butcher block island countertop and handsome woodwork on the fireplace mantel, range hood, and ceiling. Underfoot, Oak wood flooring is salvaged from a tobacco barn, giving it its unique tone and rich shine that comes only from the unique process of drying and curing tobacco.
To keep the design from being too monotonous, concrete countertops are selected to outline the perimeter cabinetry, while wire mesh cabinet frontage, aged bronze hardware, primitive light fixtures and playful bar stools liven the space and add a touch of elegance.

This tile accent wall was created using large format, stacked stone, tile and tobacco sticks. The dimensions of the tile and existing wall presented a challenge. Two tiles would cover all but 3" of the wall width. Rather than fill in with such a small piece of tile we decided to frame each side with a 1-1/2" width of wood it wood. The wood also needed to be 3/8" thick to match the thickness of the tile. You won't find those dimensions at a lumber yard, so we visited our local source for reclaimed materials. They had tobacco sticks which come in the odd sizes we wanted. The aged finish of the tobacco sticks was the perfect compliment to the vanity and the Industrial style light fixture. Sometimes the solution to a functional design dilemma also delivers extraordinary aesthetic results. The lighting in this bath is carefully layered. Recessed ceiling lights and the vanity mirror with LED backlighting are controlled by dimmer switches. The vanity light is fitted with Edison style bulbs which shed a warmer, softer level of light.

This 1960’s era kitchen, complete with period fur-downs, short cabinets, and a star-trek console island was ripe for a remodel. Traffic flow was a big issue, as the utility room and garage door accessed the kitchen in the middle of the work triangle.
By redirecting traffic flow through the kitchen by moving the garage access, and re-arranging the work areas, this gourmet kitchen is now ready for battle. Gone is the stain-grade cabinets, and console island, confusing layout, and the busy wallpaper.
The focal point of this new kitchen is most certainly the 9 foot, black walnut, Red island. This spacious Island has a myriad of cool features, including under-counter cubbies for toddler crafts, two distinct sitting areas for work or socializing, and an in-island microwave drawer accessible to everyone. Just behind the island is a beautiful Viking range sitting just under a custom patina copper vent hood. The kitchen was widened over 16” and all the new painted cabinetry, including the double refrigerator finishes off an open, light and airy new gourmet kitchen. Add the pull-out pantry cabinets, the redesigned “mother’s desk”, and the farmhouse sink, and you have a masterpiece.

During the late 1800s and early 1900s, many farmers who lived in the fertile valleys of Pennsylvania’s Susquehanna River and Allegheny Mountains grew tobacco. Using a mixture of pine species as siding, floor joists and roof rafters, they constructed barns for drying tobacco – a unique process that gave what we call tobacco pine its heavily mixed color and character (without odor).
Tobacco-stained pine hardwood flooring creates a unique, “old pine” appearance with deep, rich shades of brown and red intermingled with the wood’s original honey color. This dark, naturally weathered look will help you add warmth and charm to a more rustic décor.
