Sleepy Hollow Transitional Transitional Kitchen, New York

A young family moving from NYC tackled a lightning fast makeover of their new colonial revival home before the arrival of their second child. The kitchen area was quite spacious but needed a facelift and new layout. Painted cabinetry matched to Benjamin Moore’s Light Pewter is balanced by grey glazed rift oak cabinetry on the island. Shiplap paneling on the island and cabinet lend a slightly contemporary edge. White bronze hardware by Schaub & Co. in a contemporary bar shape offer clean lines with some texture in a warm metallic tone.

White Marble countertops in “Alpine Mist” create a harmonious color palette while the pale blue/grey Waterworks backsplash adds a touch of color. Kitchen design and custom cabinetry by Studio Dearborn. Countertops by Rye Marble. Refrigerator, freezer and wine refrigerator--Subzero; Ovens--Wolf. Cooktop--Gaggenau. Ventilation—Sirius. Hardware--Schaub & Company. Sink--Kohler Strive. Sink faucet--Rohl. Tile--Waterworks. Stools--Palacek. Flooring—Sota Floors. Window treatments: in “Northbrook Birch.” Photography Adam Kane Macchia.

Kathleen McCleary added this to Kitchen of the Week: White and Gray and Storage-Packed
A storage wall was another must for the homeowners. The original design called for vertical storage for trays above the ovens (a steam oven on the top and a wall oven on the bottom), but the clients liked the look of bookshelves, so Robertson moved the tray storage to the top cabinet to the right of the oven wall.
Toronto Interior Design Group | Yanic Simard added this to Which Appliance Finish Should You Choose for Your Kitchen?
Here, the interest often comes from mixing different neutrals and textures, like combining wood and white cabinetry, so feel free to contrast your steely appliances with warmer metals like brass or bronze. Brushed brass is an especially strong choice to pair with stainless steel because it has a subtle warmth that doesn’t contrast the steel so obviously. Bring in lots of texture — with rattan seats and placemats, for example — and you’ll have a rich mix-matched palette.

Open shelf - we are assuming we will have one shelf of cookbooks -- could be open shelf or in island, but thinking about this
