Lewis / Schoeplein architects

I worked with Toni and Marc of Lewis Schoeplein architects on the remodel of our mid-century modern home. Simply put - they were a joy to work with and amazing all around. We looked forward to hearing their innovative ideas at every meeting. They truly listened to our needs as a family and came up with great solutions. They were involved from start to finish to the extent that when the project was completed, we were sad that we wouldn't have an excuse to talk to them all the time! They very much understood the aesthetic of our house and greatly enhanced it with their vision and design. They were open and honest with us as to what things would cost, were super forthcoming with suggesting finishes and very patient and honest with me (which was helpful because I was new at this whole remodel thing). I LOVED working with them and would highly recommend them to anyone. They are so talented and such lovely people.

Lewis Schoeplein has worked on two projects for us. One was the restoration of a mid-century historically-registered house in the fall of 2013. Their work was impeccable. They were highly sensitive to what was there and had excellent suggestions for how to improve it. They never felt the need to impose their own mark on the house (i.e. they seem to have no ego about their work). Rather, everything they did was in the service of restoring the house back to the original condition and enhancing that condition in a sensitive manner. Significantly, they also had very good cost-saving ideas and very good ideas about how to improve functionality. The other project is a large landscape project, including a swimming pool, outdoor dining area, fire pit lounging area, and vegetable garden. The date of this project is spring-fall of 2015. Again, their work was flawless. We had originally hired a traditional landscape architect, who caused a budget bust of 150%. Lewis Schoeplein came in and reduced the cost down to our original budget and did so by creating a smarter, more efficient, more beautiful, more functional, and overall better design. They understand the building codes, they understand how to get things permitted and they understand construction (and can recommend ways to increase efficiency and cost savings). We have found Toni and Marc to be impressively smart, super creative and excellent problem-solvers. They are mindful of budget and knowledgeable enough to design to a budget. And, they are lovely to work with. We cannot recommend them highly enough and would be happy to answer specific questions any potential clients may have.

Toni Lewis and Marc Schoeplein are nothing short of the very best. They listened to our needs, respected our budget, gently steered us in a better direction if we were going off-track, and understood the era of our house and our personal design sensibilities. When they walked into a room - either our house or the vendors they work with - they projected energy, enthusiasm, and a personal devotion to every detail, as if they were designing their own house. They had a calm and very professional presence with each of the contractors who bid on the project and went above and beyond with unique ideas that made us exclaim, "Yes!" every time. I have recommended Lewis/Schoeplein to several friends and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for an incredible architecture/design team.

Toni and Marc are a dream to work with. They listened to all our concerns and needs and came up with a beautiful design that is perfect to ours taste and needs. We are currently under construction for a ground up residence and this phase is moving seamlessly. They respond quickly to questions and have designed very thorough and detailed plans so there are no revisions or areas that are not completely and thoughtfully planned out. We are thrilled with the entire process. We would most certainly use them again given the occasion.

Toni and Marc are an absolute joy to work with. We were doing a major remodel of our kitchen and two bathrooms for our very original 1927 Spanish home. We wanted to make sure that the new rooms fit seamlessly into the existing look but also wanted them to feel fresh and livable by modern standards. Their designs showed a wonderful respect for the style and flow of the home, while introducing multiple elements that took the rooms to a whole new level aesthetically. In addition, they have a wonderful understanding of materials, finishes, custom fabrication, colors, hardware--all the details that make a room truly special. We were originally introduced to their work by seeing a modern home they had designed that was truly spectacular. With their understanding of space and light, how people live today and the building process in general, we'd recommend them regardless of the style of architecture you're interested in.

Lewis | Schoeplein has been a pleasure to work with. So far, we have completed the design process and will begin construction soon. They amazed us with their ideas and all contractors have commented on what a smart design it is. Every step of the way they have been extremely thorough. Toni and Marc are excellent listeners and took into consideration all of our needs, from updating the exterior all the way down to a built -in litter box. As a team they were able to hone in our style and keep us focused and moving forward with ideas. Since our budget is tight, they came up with a game plan for a couple phases of construction. I'm excited to finish the project and report back with photos and more details!

Lewis / Schoeplein did the plans for a complete remodel of our house including adding a 2nd story. They were on the job from plan formation at the very beginning through final construction phases, overseeing the contractor. They even helped with some finishing touches including lighting, flooring and paint colors but the bigger job was the complete re-design of our house. They kept to the true, original architectural style of our home, making the renovation/addition look natural and true to original house style. They were professional to work with and easy to get along with while at the same time having a firm hand with the contractor when needed. They are a great husband-wife team complimenting each other's talents perfectly. We are so happy with our finished product, even 10 years later.

We hired Lewis / Schoeplein five years ago for our first phase, which was a remodel for a little 1950s SoCal grandma house with the potential for an addition in the future. (My previous review did not reflect the cost for that overall project, which was around $100,000). Naturally, we came back to them to design our addition and could not be happier. We challenged them to design what some folks in the industry have dubbed a "mullet" house - traditional in the front, modern in the back. They have once again provided excellent service, inspiration, guidance - and patience - for our little residential project. Marc and Toni are extremely knowledgeable; and they posses that critical (yet hard to find) ability to balance creativity with cost and feasibility for a client. But, of course, I would say what we enjoy the most is their personalities. They have been absolutely wonderful to work with.

I love the plans that Lewis / Schoeplein did for my complete interior house remodel. Their aesthetic is sophisticated and their attention to detail leaves no room for error. All of my spaces now flow and make sense and I get nothing but compliments on the end result.

I first discovered Toni Lewis and Marc Schoeplein's work driving through my neighborhood. They had remodeled an older home and had retained its' neighborhood scale, style and character. Several years later I asked them to remodel the tiny kitchen in my 75 year old English cottage that I had lived in for forty years. I needed more space and wanted something very modern. it had to reflect the home's older charm. They encouarged me to combine spaces and delivered the best functioning kitchen and fabulous entertaining area possible. It is a very large space but it is also warm and cosy for just two people. The new kitchen has totally changed the way I live in my home. Toni and Marc are a pleasure to work with. They are thoughtful, creative and supportive.
