Springtime builders (STB) provided an excellent product in a green built home. In addition STB provided a great education on the benefits of using environmentally friendly options in this particular type of house design. From outside in the house employs great energy saving products and tools - from solar tubes that provides energy to the hot water heaters to hardy plank and SIPS panel insulation to a geothermal heat pump and passive solar flooring that utilizes the orientation of the windows to capture light seasonally i.e. maximizes solar energy in the cooler months.

Working with Brian Knight and Springtime Homes to build my home was a great experience from beginning to end. He helped me with lot selection and we adapted his Springtime Cottage to my own needs. He always was open to my input and gave good explanations for any needed changes. He hires craftsmen not just builders. There were very few problems during the building process but the ones that did occur were solved quickly. He is more of a perfectionist than myself and found and fixed little things I did not notice. My home is energy efficient, meets my easy lifestyle needs and is a home to be proud of with its individuality and craftsmanship.

We LOVE our home built by Brian Knight and his crew at Springtime Builders. ENERGY EFFICIENCY: not only is our home one of the tightest homes built but the passive solar element was designed in such a way that we take full advantage of the sun in the winter to warm our home. Our ERV (energy recovery ventilator) assures we have fresh air flow in the house. His knowledge of the most up-to-date products for conserving energy is endless. COMMUNICATION: Brian is a great listener and will discuss any ideas using his expertise to create the best house for your needs. He is always quick to respond to any questions you may have. SERVICE: Again, all of those working for Springtime Builders were readily available to assist with any questions and gave great input regarding any ideas or changes. If subcontractors were needed, Brian contacted them immediately and made sure things were followed up and completed. SCHEDULE AND BUDGET: Brian was open to any ideas we had to build our home in the best but most economical way. He was there to guide us to be sure we were getting the best quality within the budget. Being aware of the timeframe of building, he was always ahead of the game and anticipated what needed to be addressed at each stage of building. Would I recommend this company? ABSOLUTELY, without a doubt!

We worked with Brian to create our home. Brian's small team of very talented individuals completed the project within our allowed time frame. We felt that Brian was very easy to work with and communicate with though out the entire process. One of the impressive aspects of working with Brian is that he participated in the build rather than just stopping by occasionally to oversee the work. Working with Brain to tweak his designs to fit our needs was an easy process. Along the way Brain provided thoughtful suggestions to meet our style and he always made suggestions to help keep the project on budget. Brian's scientific understand of home building helped us both save money by creating efficiencies and keep the home within our green building requirements. We still contact Brian for suggestions on maintenance needs and he is still been available to provide support.

We worked with Springtime homes for about 6 months before hiring them for our project. Owner Brian Knight got us lined up with an architect and most importantly a 3rd party energy rater. Our goal was to achieve the best ACH50 rating in WNC, and the target was met by Springtime Homes through the diligence of their crews. Much thought was given to every energy conservation detail, from insulating & isolating the slab, high performance foundation walls, SIP Panels, to Joists attachment, and foam insulation. The crews were meticulous in their execution at all phases of construction to ensure we had the tightest home which resulted in a .282ACH50, HERS 40 rating.
Most residential contractors are just home builders, but Springtime employs craftsmen too. They spent time making sure that special touches existed in the finishes that make a house a home. We used lumber harvested from the site in the project, which makes for a special story. Details like the hand made pass thru kitchen windows, hallway niche and handrail details make this home special. Since construction has been completed, numerous pieces of furniture have created from the same harvested wood.
Springtime completed the project in exactly 365 days, which was expected because of the topology and complexity of a crescent shaped mountain home. All aspects of the project did not go as planned, but the team was able to adjust, adapt and realign to get this custom home completed in a first class manner. We did have some call backs, but they were minimal and addressed promptly.
Overall we are very satisfied with the product we received because the quality and performance met, and exceeded, our expectations. I think one of the best references a builder can get is the fact that we stay in touch with Brian long after the project has been completed. BK 081915
