Happy birthday to me! I contacted Dawn Cook Design on my last birthday to finally have professional help with our first floor renovation. Our 1995 new build was in desperate need for an update and we could not be more pleased with the fantastic designs, level of service; and the ability to be fluid with curve balls. Dawn and Dominic assessed our vision and put together a design that will be timeless and beautiful for years to come.

We have been working with Dawn and her team over the last few months and it has truly been a dream come true. I was immediately drawn to her style and vision and knew it would be the perfect fit. She understands me and my style and has introduced me to a whole new world. I wouldn’t do anything in my house without her direction and input! Restoring a century home ourselves for past six years. When it came time for kitchen we needed professional help and that is exactly what we got. Dawn and team listen. I loved working with Dawn. Our project wasn’t easy as we moved to the US from abroad and started the remodel while we were still in Asia. Throw in Covid related travel restrictions and lockdowns and we were in for a complicated renovation! Thankfully Dawn was up to the task and together with our Project Manager (who she had recommended) worked tirelessly throughout lockdown and via Zoom calls to get ahead with the house. The project isn’t small and she took it on with gusto and was great to communicate with. Once we finally got to the US, Dawn and I had great creative brainstorming sessions. I was very happy that we worked so well together as I have my own distinct taste when it comes to colours and decorating but Dawn (and her amazing assistant Sadie) helped me elevate those to new heights! While we are done with the major part of the first floor, we still have some bits and bobs to do around the house and I’m glad I can call Dawn for her trusted advice. I’m so happy I found her through Houzz and honoured to call her a friend and creative partner.

I interviewed several designers and hired Dawn for my living room and dining room project. I was very happy with Dawn, and her staff, from beginning to end. First, she took direction on my budget and style using Houzz. Second, she gave me options but not TOO MANY options which take time and money. And finally, her taste is beautiful. Some of the pieces we purchased had problems, like a broken leg or an imperfect fabric, and Dawn dealt with these issues with the vendor and I did not have to leave work and become involved. I initially chose to work with Dawn because of her great reviews and because based on her website and pictures, it seemed like she would be able to achieve the mid-century type vibe we were going for in our house and room (I was looking and speaking to different designers from out of state). I have really specific taste and had sent Dawn extensive emails and pictures describing my likes and dislikes. She actually took the time to absorb all of my communications so that the design she presented was really spot on! We had to go back and forth on a few items and she was great about coming up with new suggestions that worked better for me. We began working with Dawn Cook Design in 2013 when we moved into our new house. In Fall 2013, we embarked on an ambitious, year-long project to renovate several rooms in our ninety year-old Shaker Heights home. The focal point of the renovation was the master bedroom and bathroom, but we also wanted to update another bathroom and bedroom. When we began, we had an architect's drawing for the master suite renovation, a general contractor and a blank slate; we had only the vaguest of notions of what to do to finish the space. Based on her excellent reputation on Houzz and experience renovating older homes like ours, we called on Dawn Cook to be our designer on this project. That turned out to be the best decision possible. Dawn proved to be an outstanding designer, one who helped to translate our basic "likes" and "dislikes" into a unified, stylish design that we now feel quite privileged to be able to live in day in and day out. She also has the tenacity and self-confidence to advocate those design choices that she believes will work best--choices that we ended up taking the plunge on, much to our delight ultimately. Whether choosing colors, wood, granite or tile surfaces, plumbing fixtures, furniture, mirrors, lighting or window treatments, time and time again, Dawn was able to come up with things that we loved. We have utilized the professional services of Dawn Cook Design on two significant projects in our historic Cleveland Heights home. From a redesign of our living room and dining room, which was completed in 2013, to a complete gut renovation of our 100 year old kitchen and mudroom, which was just completed in September of 2014. Dawn graciously and willingly stepped in on short notice to help us finalize some design decisions on a large renovation project involving several rooms in our Shaker Heights home including two bathrooms. Dawn Cook Design has a wonderful Design team! Dawn Cook helped me select some of my paint colors and my bedding and then her design partner, Linda Mauck Smith helped me create a great living room space plan and some amazing window treatments! Dawn and Linda complement one another and offer a truly creative approach to design. Not only is Dawn Cook a great design resource, but she is also a talented Design blogger! I thought I did a decent job "designing" my own window treatments and then had them custom made, but after using Dawn Cook Design and BluLens Design, I'll never "design" my own treatments again! We enlisted Dawn Cook Design to redesign our very traditional living and dining rooms in to a more modern sophisticated design while maintaining the integrity of our 1920's Cleveland Heights home. We entrusted her completely with the design and loved what she presented to us. She listened to our needs (child-friendly furniture was a must), adjusted materials and furnishings to stay within our budget, and maintained in contact with us through every step of the redesign process. We are more than pleased with how her design transformed our home. We look forward to working with her again to redesign our kitchen in the very near future. Dawn Cook Design met every expectation, including attention to deadlines and budget. Dawn was very hands-on, working with me in the home and at market to narrow down choices and direction. She was incredibly open to my vision for my home and yet was able to gently nudge me in or out of a decision when necessary. We had several projects/rooms to complete, almost all of which were on tight timelines, and Dawn was able to pull them together, achieving the "feel" I hoped for. One of our projects was an overhaul of our kitchen to be completed in TWO weeks while we were out of town, but because we started the discussion of these changes and made our materials selections a few months in advance, and because Dawn has amazing relationships with amazing contractors and subcontractors, the project was actually completed to rave reviews from me, my family, and anyone who sees the space. And I shouldn't forget to mention that Dawn has the qualities every decorator should have: patience, motivation, and a sense of humor!

We have worked with Dawn for several years on several projects, including a major kitchen/mudroom remodel which is listed in her portfolio on this site. Dawn was terrific to work with. She accomodated our idiosyncrasies and budget concerns into every recommendation she offered us and we have been extremely pleased with all the results. Dawn helped me select the perfect transitional drum dining room fixture for our 133 year old home, and had it shipped in time for installation the day of a holiday party. Plus, she has provided great consultation on fabric selection for an entire room based on photos and manufacturer's information. I have only disagreed with one suggestion and that was to limit to one the number of rooms in my house that could have monkeys on the window treatments. How can you really have too many monkeys? Full disclosure - she is my sister-in-law, but how many people give their sister-in-law carte blanche? Enough said. Dawn is brilliantly creative and has a great sense of humor. Wish she were in Atlanta!

Dawn saved me from making a major color mistake in my new home! She tactfully explained that the paint color I wanted was too much in the same color family as the woodwork and other walls, and that by choosing colors on the opposite side of the color wheel, they would compliment my woodwork and warm up my home. She also gently pushed me out of my comfort zone with carpeting colors. I'm so happy with the choices she helped me make. Couldn't have done it without her expertise and professionalism. Dawn designed and managed the installation of a new bathroom on the second floor of our Shaker Heights house. She was both creative and responsive in thinking through what we needed and wanted, and her experience showed in a coordinated and efficient process. The final result is really beautiful, incorporating modern tile and fixtures without clashing with the Shaker/Tudor feel of our home.
