To my knowledge UV paint finish is something you put on painted wood that will be exposed to moisture or direct sunlight. If you have a kitchen where there is tons of light pouring in it will keep the wood from aging and retard discoloration longer. If your kitchen cabinets will only receive indirect sunlight or your windows are already UV coated then I see no need.

Thanks - but what about the moisture part, do they hold up better over the years from being cleaned?

UV coatings are acrylic varnish cured instantly by ultraviolet lamps. What that does is saves curing time. (Think of having your nails gel coated). The end result is a hard surface that resists moisture and light fading. So the question is what finish were they planning on using before charging you all the extra money?

Thanks for your response! The cabinets would have a standard enamel finish otherwise. The kitchen has windows with a northern exposure, ( I live in the US) so discoloration from light is not an issue. The concern would be mostly to protect the paint from wear from being washed. Any idea if the uv treatment is effective for that?
