Nope! I live in Maine, built the house a couple years ago as an off grid passive solar home. You have a good eye for details; the walls are 12" thick for an R42 value and R70 in the ceiling and the floor is colored concrete.

@Wicked Wahine: Simply adjust the height of the open shelves to accommodate your container height. That might mean that you have more shelves in the same space but if the shelves are sized to your containers then the look will be balanced. If you are doing a kitchen remodel, either your architect, contractor, or designer would be able to help with this.
