I notice that most of these pics have white countertops. Is this coincidence or is this the "traditional" choice, to the extent that the term applies? It seems that most farmhouse bathrooms have a Victorian vibe, so white would make sense given the mentality of cleanliness that accompanied the era. I just wondered what other options might be out there for those of us with more rustic, "woodsy" tastes. The pics posted above by the designer are a good start, but what else?

Enjoyed the article, I usually roll my eyes when I see gorgeous, contemporary “farmhouse” style homes built for suburbanites. Yes, I do love them but.... I live in an actual 1920’s or 1930’s era farmhouse. Our only bathroom is not spacious by any means. We think it was originally part of of the former porch. In fact, there is barely enough room for the tub (not a free standing tub) very tiny corner corner vanity/sink, and toilet. Perhaps the adjoining bedroom is where “spacious” comes in. Lol! The fixtures were not original. Old and worn. (1950’s?? ). We finally had the small bathroom gutted to the studs and remodeled. Still small (cozy) and functional...we love it. It has a quirky layout but now we have a full sink vanity vs the motorhome sized corner sink vanity. We had to sacrifice the only small window in order to fit the vanity into the space. Hey, functional and up to date works for us!
