Sandra - I also want to bite the bullet and get almost this exact island. I'm in Minneapolis. Is there a designer that you know of out here that works with your cabinet company so I can have this made? Thanks!

The cabinet company we work with builds to our specifications based on our designs. They work with a limited number of designers and there are only 3 on the west coast (in California). I don't know of anyone in the Seattle area. Good luck!

Are the shelves set back or notched out so that the door mounted spice rack "fits" or clears?
  • PRO
    Sandra Bird Designs, Inc.
Yes the shelves need to be cut back to accommodate the shelves. In this case, at least 3.25".

Yes you do Dennis. And thank you for that, as always.

Sage by C-2. The island was custom built per our specifications by our cabinet company. The granite was cut from the same slab as the rest of the kitchen by our stone fabricator and installed on site. Hope this helps! Doesn't Dennis take amazing photos?

The island is 26" x 33". The top hangs over 1" on three sides and 2" above the paper towel holder. It is 36.5" tall including the 3" casters and the 1.5" top.

The kitchen is about 12' x 14' including the countertop peninsula. So the area is 168 square feet.

The sink is in the peninsula in the left hand side (hidden in the above photo, but visible here.)

    Isn't it perfect?

Unfortunately it was custom built per our specifications by our cabinet company. The granite was cut from the same slab as the rest of the kitchen by our stone fabricator and installed on site.

I'm sorry, but I don't know where you can find one pre-assembled.

These spice racks are custom made to our specifications by our cabinet company in the Midwest. Unfortunately I've never seen anything comparable off the shelf. Some people have recommended Rev-a-Shelf though. Good luck!

They are custom made to our specifications by our cabinet company in the Midwest. They are an added accessory. You might be able to find a local company that could build some for you. The shelves need to be cut shorter to accommodate them. Good luck!

Apartment 46 for the Home added this to Small, Slim and Super: Compact Kitchen Islands That Offer Big FunctionJul 4, 2016

The golden rule for kitchen design is the work triangle, but that doesn’t mean you can’t add a little stop in between endpoints. This small island creates a great workstation smack-dab in the middle of all the action. It’s a great place to store platters and pots, cooking utensils, foil, dish towels and oven mitts. It’s also an impromptu tiny buffet where you can put out the evening’s food for a casual help-yourself meal. It’s true that adding an island means the flow will go from open to kind of U-shaped, but we humans are pretty great at relearning things and can easily adjust to walking around the island in exchange for the functionality it offers.

Now for paper towel holders that roll a bit differently. This one, by designer Sandra Bird, is off the counter but hangs from a more conventional wall-mounted holder.
