Architectural DetailsBeach Style Porch, New York

In order for the kitchen to serve the back porch, I designed the window opening to be a glass garage door, with continuous granite countertop. It's perfect.

Has this thermal break of 2 countertop slabs with a thin layer of silicone between been sufficient over the years?

You can order this door frm Designer Door Co in any size that can operate on the track. Mine is 6' wide x 4' high.

How is it concealed on the inside? Can you see the garage door when it is up?

In this case, I wanted to see the glass door on the ceiling. We exposed the track and hardware as well but powder coated the metal for a nicer finish. It has a clean, somewhat industrial look. I also shortened the length of the track and upgraded the fasteners to avoid the typical "garage" door look.

Do you happen to remember what stain color the cedar shingles are? They look great!

It's Cape Cod Grey, a Cabot Stain by Maibec.

As long as the western sun does not hit the glass (double pane) you should be good.

Im sorry but i dont remember exactly, except that it was a seafoamish color, and its not available here anymore. It was a very grainy green and grey, which was perfect at the beach.

It is a typical overhead garage door track. I shortened it in length and painted it white, but it still has a nice, simple look to it.

36" above kitchen floor but 42" above porch since porch is 6" lower than house

I bought this as a custom door by Designer Door Co..

Its basically a overhead garage door built to a smaller size, 4' x 8'.

We open it manually. It works great.

I got them from a local wicker store. They are all weather and swivel.

Olan Mills? Jersey Shore Golf Cart Rentals? Applebee's? It's anyone's guess, really. There is endless possibility with that depth of gaze.

For something completely different, there’s always a garage-door-style window. It opens up the window space entirely, tucks overhead and out of the way, and is always a conversation piece. It also fits well in wider openings where casement or double-hung windows wouldn’t be practical. Here, the rounded design of the counter adds a bit more serving space, and softer edges can minimize the impact of hitting a corner.Although this appears to be a single slab, it’s actually two pieces. A thin joint of silicone between the two prevents any cold absorbed by the outdoor piece from transferring to the indoor counter.

8. Try window service. If your grill setup is near the house, a pass-through to the kitchen can be extremely handy — and fun! Pull up a couple of stools on the outside, and you'll have your own little bar, too.

Eventually add window that opens UP to access sunroom. Maybe a little countertop.

Like the idea of a big kitchen window opening onto "bar"
