What Houzz contributors are saying:
2. Weigh the risks. Even if you own your home or have permission from your landlord, that does not mean you are in the clear. Subletting your home opens you up to potential theft and serious damage that you ultimately will be responsible for. There are certainly horror stories out there about sublets gone wrong, so you should not take the decision to rent out your home lightly. There are ways to minimize these risks but not to eliminate them.
3. Mid-century retro in a Boston apartment: This apartment in Boston belongs to Amanda, the author of the blog Red Jet Whistle. In addition to some great thrift scores, her creative moves included displaying a vintage Marimekko piece of fabric with stretchers, and cutting up FLOR tiles to create a unique area rug.
After discovering FLOR tiles a number of years ago, Amanda found that she was drawn to their versatility but interested in more patterns. With the help of a utility knife and a few colored tiles, she came up with her own clever geometric pattern and assembled the rug in her living room. See the before and after on Amanda's blog, Red Jet Whistle.
