Exactly the sectional we have been seeking! Could I ask you to let us know the model/make? Thank you.
  • kjs1234
Where are the pillows on sectional and drapery from? Love the combination!

The color issue happened in my condo. Shaker beige came out a little too dark...even in the daytime. I read somewhere that I could add 20% white or go 20% lighter. I also noticed that his projects have a lot of recessed lights (like at least 6 units). I will try adding several recessed lights and floor/table lamps (i haven't moved in) before I repaint anything.
  • trebinje
After painting just one wall and before it had even dried, my DH took it upon himself to direct the painting crew to lighten Shaker Beige by 50%. In our home, it turned out a dreadful greyish white...blech! Luckily, I arrived home in time to stop the work before the painters had gone too far. Went back to Shaker Beige and it is absolutely lovely, just as Mr. Abrams describes it, the perfect neutral backdrop.

If you truly want lighter, I'd try a different color altogether ... or perhaps your BM dealer will cut Shaker Beige 50% in a different way that would yield a better 50% hue.

to J Snurk......were you happy with the Shaker Beige in your sons room? was it darker than expected?
  • J Snurk
I was very happy with it. It was not darker then we expected. That's why I was shocked that this was the same color. We didn't use Benjamin Moore paint though. We had it color matched in Valspar paint from Lowes.

I'm having such a hard time deciding on a rug and curtain color with my grey couch and accessible beige walls by sherwin Williams. Any suggestions on a rug color and curtain color? Thanks!

Michael, I love this room along with all of your work. Thanks so much for sharing and responding to questions. I would appreciate your input on something. I am currently in the process of building a custom home (my dream come true, albeit on a small scale) and am planning to go with the black/oil-rubbed bronze levers for my door hardware. My question is, do you feel that the lighting in the house also needs to be in black/oil-rubbed bronze, or do you mix it up a bit? Thanks in advance for your reply!

Depending on the dimension of your coffered ceiling squares, I would put one in every square - I love the ambience of canned lighting on dimmers.
  • rayrum
I cant tell if the canned lights are rimmed with white or brushed steel. Which did you use and does it make a big difference on style. We are painting our walls a greige color, walls half the whie of the grey. Which would you recommend? White or steel rimmed canned lights?

Actually they metals are both nickel in a brushed finished. Avoid mixing metals like brass and nickel. Mixing finishes like polished and brushed is fine.

Hi Nina, Most often on Houzz, we hear from designers that strive for a feeling of cohesion among the areas in an open space. That doesn't necessarily mean matching, just that the overall elements flow into each other and work well together.

Thank you! The design goal for this home was to create a timeless, classic, environment for a growing family. The style is transitional, and this palette developed from wanting the colors to flow nicely from the living room and dining room into this kitchen and family room.

Laura Heller added this to Great Rooms With Great ViewingOct 18, 2011

Carpeting, upholstery and window and wall coverings all help absorb sound. The tray ceiling and wood trim here act like acoustic tiles, providing more nooks, crannies and surfaces for sound to wrap around. This creates both better audio quality and less din for those in other parts of the great room who might be bothered by the noise or be doing something else, like talking, reading or working on homework.
