    is it french bleed? if so how do you create the look? we are planing our floors. Want oak as it is stronger and would like to stain it walnut, dont like the live patterns to show and rift is so expensive. Any suggestions?

    Maple is a bit stronger than oak and shows less grain and striations, but it takes stain differently than oak because the base color is yellow. Maybe you could have your flooring contractor make some samples for you. That's what we did here -- samples were made until we got the stain color exactly right. Good luck!
