We had an amazing experience working with the team at Cummings Architecture. They created a vision for our 275 year old home and helped us see it to fruition with an outstanding team. We are excited to work with them again on future projects.

Visionary is probably the first word that comes to mind if asked to describe Matt Cummings. The task was to design a creative residential development of 6 homes. On the surface this may sound easy enough, but for added complexity Matt’s team had to incorporate in the design a 12,000sqft existing building. The result is by far the most unique modern farm community on the North Shore. Truly a magnificent design, we could not be more please or inspired. Anyone that passes our road cannot resist a drive-by and are always quick to stop and share their awe. The entire Cummings team has worked tirelessly to incorporate our expansive wish list with timely creative solutions and support. We could not imagine working with anyone else, looking forward to the next project!

My Cummings Architects designed addition flows so naturally from the main house that visitors often comment that it looks like it’s always been there. This is no happy accident but the result of an amazing attention to detail and great communication skills by Mat and his competent and personable staff. I highly recommend.

Perhaps the best decision we have thus far made for our family is hiring Mat Cummings to design a new home to replace the aging, problem-ridden 1950's cape house we'd been livin in for over 10 years. We interviewed a number of architects for the project but Mat immediately won our confidence and trust. Mat brings an exceptional blend of passion, depth of knowledge, caring, and inspired creativity to his work that is palpable. This extends to every member of his eminently qualified team, who worked tirelessly to bring Mat's vision for our house to reality. After a number of preliminary meetings with Mat and Joe, Mat went to work on a final design that brought to fruition a vision for our house that not perfectly matches our style and tastes, but also fits in nicely with the neighborhood while paying tribute to its architectural heritage. Mat and Joe worked relentlessly to refine and perfect the initial design for our house, creating masterfully detailed construction drawings that left no stone unturned for our builders. The end-result is a house of timeless beauty to grow old in: elegant, modern, functional, charming, comfortable - architectural perfection! 5 plus stars for CA!!!

Cummings Architects provided valuable, diligent, professional and personalized services during the restoration and expansion of the dilapidated 1789 farmhouse we chose for retirement in Newburyport, MA. Collaborating with a builder of our choice, the friendly experts at Cummings worked through a myriad options, plans and details that included preservation of the original house and barn, renovation of the portion added in the 1880’s and replacement of the ell with a modern – but well integrated – garage and master bedroom suite. They were flexible and practical, but adhered to high standards of design in every respect. Their help in choosing finishing details that expressed our own style was an unexpected, but particularly gratifying experience.

We worked with the team at Cummings to build our dream garage and make updates to the interior of our home. They were professional, engaging and super helpful throughout the whole project. We look forward to working with them in the future.

From the start to finish of our project Cummings was outstanding. Their design ideas, after listening to what we were looking for, were spot on and even better than we could have imagined. Our project required Cummings to design within historical standards required by the town. While we are still three months from job completion, we could not be more excited for our new home and thrilled with the incredible design Cummings created for us. Purchasing our historic home was a dream for us... we moved back to New England longing for history, charm and character, while also looking for refined modern living. We entered into our design phase with a very specific idea in mind , and Cummings Architects convinced us to hand over the reigns and we couldn’t be happier we did. They created the most beautiful home design for us, retaining the integrity of our historic home while beautifully integrating new structures that compliment the traditional look of the home.

Cummings Architects was exceptional in all phases of our project. The design for the front portico transformed our home adding much needed curb appeal and it blends well into the neighborhood. Cummings also created a design that incorporated two home owners very different sense of style. The level of communication was superb from our initial inquiry and throughout the building phase. We would highly recommend this architectural firm.

Mat designed a beautiful space with great patience and creativity as we went through multiple designs to get closer to our dreams and budget. He was very good at explaining the nuts and bolts of each design as was Alexandra Gaeta Ford who walked us through design choices from tile to stone to paint. This was especially important as much of the project ( an addition, renovation and three bathrooms) had to be planned and executed while we were traveling .

Mat took my second period (near 290 year old) home from a tear-down to the best house on the block. His love and knowledge of historic homes and excitement is infectious. No detail escapes him. My home is in the final stretch and I could not not be happier with the results.

Chloe was my go to person for all of my design questions. I like to come up with my own ideas, but I'm so glad I enlisted Chloe's help. Things that I would have never thought of - different shades of white, the type backsplash tile, black garage door, you name it. She always came prepared with samples, ideas and a professional attitude to get things done. The compliments keep coming!
