I am devastated that this happened to your woodworking shop. Reading your review was the first time I was aware that anyone thought the floor problem was caused by a lack of ventilation, and I called you immediately to discuss it. There are many factors that could have contributed to the high levels of moisture in the crawl space and it’s not clear that more ventilation would have ameliorated it. It is my understanding that your engineer is proposing to eliminate the crawl space altogether and replace it with a slab on grade, which suggests that he feels providing more ventilation would not be enough to keep the crawl space dry.
I understood from the contractor that you were working with your engineer and the contractor to resolve the floor problem. The contractor told me that there were numerous factors that were being investigated, but ventilation was not one of these factors. Given that your engineer was leading the effort to address the problem, I felt it was inappropriate for me to insert myself into the situation. I believed that you would reach out to me if and when my assistance was required. Your engineer contacted me to request electronic files of my drawings for his use, which I sent to him immediately. He indicated nothing about a ventilation problem.
Regardless, I recognize that this unusual situation is causing you great frustration. This is never how we envision working with our valued clients.
Regards,
Dawn Zuber, FAIA
