What an easy and delightful experience working with Janine! I needed to create a more open floor plan and refurnish two living spaces. She helped me envision the new floor plan and worked with my construction contractor to ensure it was done right. For furnishings, her eye for design and decor, and her resources for items I needed, turned my old house into a beautiful new one. She sourced the perfect rugs, sofa, tables, chair, bookshelves and chandelier. I could not have been more pleased! As a good friend said when she saw the big reveal, "Wow, she [Janine] really got you." Unlike other interior designers with whom I've worked, Janine perfectly decorated for my taste, not hers. I cannot recommend her more!

Janine Terstriep has done a wonderful job this year helping my husband and I navigate furnishing a new home. We decided to sell the large suburban home where we had raised our children and bought a town home in a more urban area. Janine had great ideas the minute she saw our new place. She listened to us about which pieces of furniture we wanted to keep and where we would like new. i had a very positive experience with Janine on a project in Leawood Ks so I hired her for a second project at my condo in Destin Florida. Janine did a great job and was able to accomplish a lot despite being remote from the project site during the preliminary phases of the project. Janine worked her magic after coming to Destin and I love the result. Janine is easy and fun to work with and does a great job. I highly recommend her for your next project be it in Kansas, Missouri or Florida.

Janine is an excellent decorator and friend. We were starting on a kitchen remodel that had been in the works for five plus years. We had the plan but no colors. Janine picked out the colors (cabinet color, counter tops, floor) very quickly and knew exactly what we wanted. She solved decorating questions quickly when we were seconding guessing ourselves. After the kitchen was done, she hired her to rearrange our furniture and now the house looks great. We will continue to use Janine for all our decorating needs.

When Janine Terstriep came into my home, I had no idea what I wanted in my new house in the living room or the view room, they were challenging rooms with oddities. Within a few minutes, she could sense my style and taste and immediately had ideas of what could work in these areas. She listened to what I thought I might like and we started brainstorming. I felt like I was working with a friend. She had numerous options for me to consider. There have been constant service people in the house and she has always been very accommodating. She has style, grace, creativity and yet is practical too. We are continuing to design others rooms in my home. Janine is a joy to work with and I highly recommend her as a designer.

When moving from my home of twenty years, Janine completely decorated my new home even better than I had imagined. After knowing and using Janine for years, she was able to narrow down my choices to my style without being given much to go off of. I have worked with Janine for over 12 years and we have now completed every room in my home. We've done projects as small as paint and flooring to full blown remodeling projects in both my master batch and full kitchen / great room. Janine is excellent at listening to what I'm looking for, understanding my taste and budget, and then giving me options to choose from. She works well with what I already have and has only nudged me a few times to make a choice different than my original choice -- I've always been glad I've followed her advice. Prior to working with Janine I made lots of costly mistakes -- mostly on color, scale of furniture and accessories, and draperies. She was hired for drapery, furniture and bedding. The workmanship of the draperies is below average, and expensive. Not a good combo. We also have had problems with upholstery, I.e., slow, and rework is already needed within 6 months. Yes, Janine has brought 3 different people in to look at drapes 5 times. However, the drapes still don't hang correctly (see photo). I am going to go to shutters, because, they are an eyesore. Cha-ching.

At The Decorative Touch we truly want our clients to be happy.
We did have a drapery treatment for Ms. Gillis where the fabric had stretched excessively.
We did replace that drapery at no charge to her.

When we left the job, she told us she was completely happy with all that we had done...

This is the first I have heard that she has an issue on an upholstered piece, and I have reached out to her to find out how we can help.

Janine was recommended by our builder on a commercial job. I do believe Janine has good design skills and she definitely facilitates your decision making process. Janine charges by the hour for her design work which of course is understandable since every client encounter may not result in a sale. However, I was very disappointed to have extended appointments choosing fabrics for chairs that were completely out of our budget. I was also disappointed to find out that I could purchase the same chairs for a hundred dollars less per chair when I consulted another source. The really sick feeling came when I found out how many thousands of dollars I could have saved on the wallpaper I purchased from Janine. When I called to discuss the pricing, Janine was unwilling to negotiate a more reasonable profit margin. I have my own business too and I understand that we all need to make a profit, but the mark up on this project was about 80% over her cost, plus the charge for her time. To add insult to injury, I ended up with a tremendous amount of leftover wallpaper that Janine said we couldn't return. I would recommend Janine for her design skills, but be aware of the huge mark up on things that you order from her. I completely trusted the builder's recommendation and ultimately spent more for the project than I should have.

At the Decorative Touch Ltd, we welcome reviews as a chance for us to evaluate our business model, and make changes so that we are doing our best. As with any relationship we also feel the one between designer and client is about communication.

We are often hired to select the products going into a commercial or home setting so that the overall color scheme flows appropriately. We do charge for this service by an hourly fee. We also make recommendations for the appropriate products and finishes for the integrity of the space. Often what is right for a commercial setting is not right for a home. We do our best to explain why these choices are suggested. When our price structure is questioned, we work with our sales reps to be as competitive as we can possibly be.

When Mrs. Johnson called me about the wallpaper pricing, (approximately 80 days after purchase) I personally called 3 other design studios to make certain our price was fair. I found one price at 35% higher, one @ 25%higher, and one at only 10cents a yard less.

I also would have been happy to have accepted Mrs. Johnson's wallpaper return, however, there is not a manufacturer who allows returns on wallpaper after 60 days. This is printed in every wallpaper book sent out by the manufacturer. Sadly, we did make every attempt to get an exception for Mrs Johnson, but we simply couldn't. I know she was unhappy about this, and I totally understood her feeling. I have learned to be more diligent about explaining this policy, and paperhangers are responsible for letting their clients know about any overages as soon as the job is complete.

I appreciate Mrs. Johnson's positive comment on our design skills. I know the contractor was pleased with the overall project, and said it looked fantastic.

As I have mentioned before I have known and worked with Janine for the past 20 plus years. I just wanted to take the time and say Thanks to Janine for a very successful 2013 here at Rock Wood Homes. Janine has decorated all of our spec homes and build jobs this year and our business has increased large part to her knowledge and talent. Janine is awesome! She has a great eye for color and design. What is really cool is that she has become the deciding vote between my wife and I. Whenever we can't decide what to do with a color or piece of furniture, we have defaulted to letting Janine decide since we trust and respect her so much. Other decorators I have met just move pillows around. Janine is the real deal, an interior design professional. Our rooms look great and are comfortable to live in. We have used Janine to decorate 7 different houses. We moved around the country and flew Janine in because we liked her work so well. Our latest project with Janine was a kitchen remodel and addition. I trusted Janine's reccomendations even when I couldn't picture the final look. The kitchen turned out amazing with positive comments from all who see it. Janine is very easy to work with, very upfront about costs and budgets.
