Diana thoughtfully approached our consultation meeting, providing a wide variety of possible solutions to meet our needs and concerns. What is more, her ideas and descriptions were inspiring and turned a project I had been feeling as a burdensome "need to take care of" into a vision I am dreaming towards! Looking forward to continue working with her on our design and turning this dream into reality!

Hiring Diana Grundeen of Trio Landscaping was the turning point between having zero interest in our steep-hilled unattractive backyard and having hope that I would someday fall in love with it. I wanted a walking meditation garden, but I didn’t know enough to explain what exactly that meant to me. I basically wanted to go on a quiet nature walk in our yard. In a space roughly 80’ x 50’, I wasn’t sure that was possible. We also had an issue with water runoff from the garage eroding the middle of our backyard (on an already steep hill). I remember standing near the top of the hill, looking out at what looked kind of hopeless to me, and saying to Diana, “Fix our backyard, please?” She had full reign. The only things that were staying were the garage and an apple tree at the far back of the yard. In January 2020, she unveiled her drawing for our yard, and I was both speechless and near tears at how perfectly she had captured the vision I’d held in my head for so long. There were walking trails, a dry creek bed, bridges, steps, a fountain, two park benches, edible plants and trees and shrubs and so many flowers and colors and textures. Plus a new deck to replace our rotting one, and a large patio for dining or entertaining. She told us we could, if we wanted to, purchase the drawing and do the work ourselves, but I was clear it was such a big job, I wanted her and her vetted teams to do the work. They started demo in May 2020. We hit a snag that was totally not Diana’s fault when we said yes to the opportunity to bury the overhead power line. Xcel dragged its feet and changed their own rules (without telling anyone) and it was November before Xcel was finally out to do that work. Between their delays and all the other delays caused by COVID-19, it was frustrating all around. But Diana was determined to make this happen, and a mild winter meant that the new deck was built in January 2021. As soon as it was warm enough, in early March 2021, work began in earnest, creating retaining walls (most with big, beautiful, locally sourced boulders), walking paths, and steps (sliced boulders!). Then came the patio, benches, fountain, and the first round of plants and mulch. It’s May first as I write this, and I have been out enjoying this yard every day…and we’re not even done yet! Lighting is coming in soon, along with the bridges and the rest of the plants as soon as they’re ready to leave the nursery. I am stunned at how Diana and her teams were able to completely transform this yard. I truly feel like I have a secluded nature trail only steps away from my house, and I love spending time in my yard every chance I get. Diana was somehow able to reach into my dreams and desires for this yard and turn it into reality, and I will be forever grateful.

Diana met with us to discuss landscaping of our yard. We live on a corner lot in Minneapolis and had a range of concerns that included: diverting water away from the house, making our yard more maintenance free, redoing a patio area, and dealing with invasive plants. Diana provided recommendations and ideas to address all of these problems. She explained how Trio Landscaping starts with a design plan. Once the design is complete we could sequence the work based on our priorities and budget. She suggested ways to save money by planting bushes ourselves. We liked that Trio Landscaping is also a Blue Thumb partner of Metro Blooms which means that they are committed making an ecologically functional landscape. Diana is a true professional who both sees the big picture and executes the details.

We just had a consult with Diana about our large, muddy yard. We knew it had the potential to be beautiful, relatively low maintenance and well suited to our needs as a family with young children and a dog, but we needed someone like Diana to come in and help us imagine the possibilities in more specific terms. She was immediately enthusiastic about our yard and really listened. We felt like she "got" our family and how we like to use the space. She immediately pointed out ways to make it more functional and beautiful and we could feel her imagination and excitement at work, which got us excited, rather than overwhelmed. By the end of the hour, we had a very specific image of what was possible and a rough idea of the work and cost involved. Diana also had ideas about aspects of our yard that we were less focused on but turned out to be really important (like the relationship between trees and fences). We also really appreciated that she had so many ideas and it was clear that she could imagine multiple versions of our yard and would be able to change direction if we indicated that it was needed. Finally, she was super low pressure and let us know that we should reach when we were ready etc. and that she was available to answer questions. When we are ready to move forward, we will definitely be working with Diana and her team and anticipate that the experience will be positive from start to finish.

Diana Grundeen (Trio Landscaping) has been our designer for three landscape projects that we had done at our home. We were pleased with the caliber of her work in designing our patios (two different homes), walkways and landscape plantings in all three projects. She and her crew worked very hard in making sure that we were satisfied when the work was completed. We were pleased with her choice of plants as we wanted low maintenance as much as possible. Diana also consulted with us this past spring about drainage ideas. Even though we have moved several times since we first started working with Diana, we have continued to use her and her crew as we know the quality of their work. Trio landscaped our entire back yard and a portion of the front and sides. Entire new paver patio, steps and sidewalk. New sod, plants, trees, mulch and rock.

I was very pleased with the work Trio Landscaping did. Diana was easy to work with, the crew worked hard and did a fabulous job! Diana checked in with me several times to see how things were going and came in the spring to check the plants and put the pump back into the bubbling boulder. Overall very professional and easy to communicate with.

Trio Landscaping created a design for our home's front landscape that included a variety of low-maintenance plants in a couple of plant beds, as well as a patio. Trio also purchased, delivered and placed all the plant material. My husband and I wanted to be able to cut costs by doing a lot of the work ourselves, so Trio Landscaping was accommodating and allowed for that, doing only the parts of the job we asked them to do.
