Soffit Altered Our Vent Hood Plans

last month

We thought we were going to be able to get rid of the soffit and go all the way to the ceiling with a chimney hood vent and have no cabinets on the wall; however, now we don’t really have room for the chimney hood vent and instead are thinking of an “under cabinet” vent. Backsplash tile was supposed to go to the bottom of the vent all of the way across but after seeing some pictures, having the tile go to the bottom of the soffit looks a bit better.

What is the opinion on a nice under cabinet vent in this scenario as long as it meets the main/max height above the cooktop?

Also, tile up to the button of the soffit?

Other ideas we didn’t consider?
