All the meals sound tasty and realy special. As it is very hot in South Africa this time of year, we decided on a lighter lunch. After church everyone was hungry, so I served a lght lettice soup. Meanwhile my husband roasted a leg of lamb in a Weber. With it we had blue cheese and beetroot terrine, baked potatoes (because he insisted on it), and a layered salad of lettice, peas, corn sealed with a layer of mayo and topped with bacon. For dessert we had vanilla panna cotta with fruit in season.

May everyone has a wonderful day.

Moving to the US from the UK, was a fun experience especially with new foods. Despite the differences though, the big feast is similar. Roast turkey/chicken, a potato dish (crispy roasties are my fav.), stuffing (I love pork and chestnut), roasted carrots, parsnips, Brussel sprouts etc., maybe a vegetable soup to start, and cheesecake, Swiss roll, or pavlova for dessert. Crackers to pull is a must have. New to me were, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, finger jello, Amish style noodles, and strawberry pretzel dessert. Actually, lots of pretzel things.

This was so interesting! There surely is a regional difference when it comes to traditional Christmas delights - and the cultural influences as well! Because of my Swedish background we always have "Farmor's" recipe for Swedish meatballs for Christmas eve. The seafood aspect has morphed into pickled herring (instead of lutefisk), and, of course, creamy mashed potatoes, lingonberry sauce (or cranberries) along with a couple of salads and perhaps some sweet potatoes (minus the marshmallows!). And often a turkey for Christmas day since in Canada our Thanksgiving dinner was w-a-y back in October!

Lots of fun reading through this article and especially the comments!
