treads - I love that the treads on these stairs aren't traditional bullnose treads...what material was used for the treads?

Think the Stairs are Oak, with a clear sealer used on steps and arbourite or a similar product as coloured risers. Sides of stairs painted to match walls. Ellie McGrenere

So, how to I recreate the look of the tread? Maybe use just an oak 2x12 cut to fit? I'm wondering if this might be considerably cheaper than buying pre-made treads? I wish there were better photos of the treads I could see it a little better.

How do you prevent scuff marks from people's shoes? - We just painted our risers white and put a floating floor on top. When people go up or down they accidentally scuff the riser.

Paint colors - Can you tell me what the exact paint colors are on each stair in this photo? I love them and think they would work perfectly - and I have the same amount of stairs. Thanks!

1. Paint stair risers a rainbow of hues. You won't be able to help smiling when you climb the stairs each day if they are painted in such a cheerful range of colors. For the best effect, choose colors that are all similar in tone: pastels, clear midtone colors or deep and rich.

Soft rustic paint. Faded pastel paint colors are lively and approachable, whether they come on a piece of vintage country furniture or a fun DIY project like this multicolor staircase. Look for colors in a similar tone (generally the same position on a paint chip) to tie them together, and use a matte finish to really capture the rustic feel. Surround your project with white or gray to keep the look contemporary but playful.
