During the period between 3200 and 2000 B.C. the small Cycladic islands in the Aegean became home to a flourishing culture. The most prominent craft in Cycladic culture was stone-cutting, especially marble sculpture. The abundance of quality marble on the islands encouraged its use for the creation of a wide range of artifacts. Among these, Cycladic Figurines are the most distinctive. Though scholars are not wholly clear as to the purpose of these statues, their abundance indicates that they held great importance. Notably, the figurines' abstract features are remarkably similar to modern art, and yet they predate contemporary pieces by thousands of years.
A subtle homage to Rodin's famous piece, The Thinker, this statue is made in the same unique style that Cycladic art is so famous for. Made of cast stone, statue measures 6.25 inches tall, 2 inches wide, and 3 inches deep.
