I'd landscape it away.

That would make it a lot easier but I want to install a gate in its place.

Is it there to direct water away from the foundation?

I don’t believe so. Water diverts just fine. There was a 5’ brick wall on top of the footing. Some sort of weird 60’s partition.

I may have left the wall and done the gate next to the wall. You also need to remove the shrub.

Shrub will be transplanted. Property line is about 18” from right of footing. Therefore can’t build next to it.

I want to remove the footing. Just trying to determine if it’s safe to do so.

There likely used to be a curved brick wing wall to add some detail to the home. Unfortunately, it was demoed. I don't see any reason to cut it out. Just landscape around it.

It was all part of the style with the shutters and trellis grid on the windows. If the wing is gone the other stuff should also go. The house is in desperate need of some real landscaping

Is it too high to incorporate the footing in the gate design? If you were to raise the ground in that area by adding fill and soil to bring the ground close to the height of the footing and then construct the gate, this could be a solution.

Why a gate where there is no walkway?

So the post is on the property line? And since you want a gate, a fence is going up? Well then by all means remove it so you are not going through a gate and stepping over it.🙂

That concrete “block” will interfere with creating a nice landscape design around the house. I would remove it.

ShadyWillowFarm, exactly. Wasn’t sure if this footing played any structural part in the foundation seeing how the grade slopes down towards this side of the house.

RedRyder, absolutely. I’m an avid gardener/carpenter/welder/etc…etc… I have a million and one ideas, unfortunately I can choose only one lol

The concrete is part of the foundation and footing so it's going to be a job to remove it.
