3. Black and Brass Add Drama to a Master Bath in Tennessee
Kaitlin Doubleday found a budget-friendly way to update the master bathroom in her East Nashville home by painting the existing double vanity a dramatic black. She swapped out the hardware to give it a new look and feel, and she had a butcher block countertop installed, along with a pair of white vessel sinks and brass faucets.
The homeowner kept the existing mirrors and created new frames for them out of trim pieces that she had painted black to match the vanity. A vintage pink rug adds a spot of color while covering up the existing tile.

8. Peel-and-Stick Transformation in the U.K.
Interior design blogger Hayley Stuart lives with her family in a rental cottage in the Hampshire area of England. “Our bathroom was my most recent project,” Stuart says. “After using tile stickers in the kitchen, I knew they would be a great option for here, and I managed to find some Victorian-style ones,” she says. Once rather dull, the space is now an inviting sanctuary.
Stuart added a macramé hanging pot in the corner to liven up the space. A vintage ladder doubles as a rack for towels and toiletries.

10. Monochrome With a Cool Pop of Citrus in London
Each floor in Lizzie and Joe Fraher’s home features an accent color. On the ground floor of their family’s expanded row house, it’s yellow; on the second floor, it’s orange; and on the top floor, it’s green. “We have two young daughters, and we gave them the opportunity to choose the colors, so they could be involved in the design,” says Lizzie, co-founder of Fraher & Findlay (formerly Fraher Architects).
Their second-floor bathroom faucets are orange, the floor’s signature color. The sink is custom-made out of concrete, and the couple chose a dark gray color to create contrast with the accent orange. The resin flooring offers slip-resistance and complements the ground floor’s polished concrete.

14. Retro Palm Springs-Inspired Vibe in a Texas Ranch House
Jaclyn and Joe Dowdle completely transformed the master bathroom in their 1976 ranch in Austin. The existing master bathroom was functional, but the couple wanted to update the style and make it larger. “The big surprise was we found out the hot water line to the master bath was undersized. The water heater is on the other side of the house,” Joe says. “Our plumber said we could go to the store and come back before the water got hot. So we added a tankless water heater to serve the master bath.”
To create a “retro Palm Springs” vibe in terms of style, the homeowners added a tropical wallpaper to contrast with the primarily black-and-white space. The walk-in shower wet room features a claw-foot tub in the corner (not pictured).
“There wasn’t a good use of space in the master bedroom and bathroom, and so we overhauled those two rooms. We added a walk-in shower and closet to better use the space, and it turned out incredible,” Joe says. A white double vanity features brass hexagon-shaped knobs and drawer pulls.

15. Houseplant Happy in a Louisiana Home
Suzanne Esme and Chris Zulueta fully embrace the period charm of their 1830s French Quarter apartment in New Orleans. In their home’s only bathroom, natural light streams in from a large Palladian-style window that overlooks their building’s interior courtyard. Esme added a framed carved-wood vanity mirror and a number of hanging houseplants to create a lush, boho look. The hanging pothos, aloe and other plants thrive in the humidity and light of the room.
On the wall across from the sink is a collection of vintage flower paintings. “I like a really girly bathroom, so l decided to go floor-to-ceiling floral,” Esme says. The bathroom includes built-in shelving, and the couple use wicker baskets and small trays to keep their toiletries organized. The large glass shower in the corner makes the small space feel open and bright.
