The valve on the left (under the fixed shower head) is the thermostatic mixing valve (controls temperature) and the 3 valves on the right are the volume controls.

I would suggest using tile which looks like wood as opposed to actual hardwood or engineered wood if you are installing it in the bathroom. Considering the level of moisture in the bathroom, wood look tile is the way to go.

could be either a hard packed mortar bed, or a precast polystyrene product. Schluter makes one, in a kit with the drain kit and waterproofing membrane. obviously it is hexagon marble tile on top of one of the previous options.
