Taking your advice here, too. So helpful and much appreciated! Can you just tell me what you think: If I have an off-white open kitchen concept, should I make my ceilings and trim in family room the same color as kitchen cabinets and trim?
  • amylurn

Thanks for the great advice. I would love your opinion. I am designing a kitchen that has white (or cream) perimeter cabinets and cherry islands. The kitchen is more formal/traditional with corbels and fluting. The trim and doors in my house are white dove (love it). Do you think I can use white dove with the more decorative trim or should I use and oyster glaze to make it creamier with a little more accent to the details. I love white dove but am afraid it my be too transition/modern with the cabinet/trim details. I would LOVE your opinion! Thanks!!!!!

Kars carries one called Gunstock that looks just like the one in the picture. It is an engineered hardwood. They also carry one called San Jose Oak from the same line and it is beautiful...similar to the Gunstock but with less grain.

Many of the new pre finished floors use Aluminum Oxide and are incredibly durable. A site finished floor is also still a great option, especially since it wont have bevels between the planks like a prefinished floor.

    Carlisle Wide Plank Floors

Prefinished hardwood floors are a great choice for a kitchen, what will determine the durability of your floor though is the wood you choose, not the finish necessarily. If you don't want dings and dents, stay away from Pine flooring, and look at White Oak or Hickory. Also consider Poly based prefinished systems like Carlisle Custom Coat, over aluminum oxide finish systems. Aluminum Oxide prefinished floors are almost impossible to touch up. Although many have a 10-20-50 year warranty, this doesn't warranty the floor from looking bad, and it will need to be touched up eventually. Carlisle Custom Coat is great because the finish is harder and more durable, but also easy to touch up, you can touch your floor in a matter of hours with no sanding required. This is nice in a kitchen where you get a lot more traffic than the rest of the house. Click here to learn more about our prefinished floors and contact us if you have any further questions.

What is the difference between BM White Dove and Cloud White? Both are used regularly on walls and cabs.
  • whocareswhoiam

White Cloud appears creamier, hint of yellow. White Dove has hint of gray.

  • 2668magnolia
Cabinet finish - Oil base or Latex, and was there any additional glaze on top of the White Dove.

No, the cabinets and trim is actually BM white dove
  • Christina Alamirie
What finish of paint do you recommend for walls, trim and cabinets? I have flat on my walls and ceilings and don't care for it very much! It leaves too many marks.

    Sonoma tile - 1 x 8 liner (Vienna - Sumatra)
  • whocareswhoiam

Had you not used the herringbone pattern on the range wall, would you still have used the liner with a brick subway pattern? We are planning to use 2x8 brick subway and weighing pros and cons of adding a 5/8" x 8" liner to add some interest. The 36" vent is all SS Wolf pro chimney with a 30" SS duct cover. Any thoughts on this are appreciated.

The grain pattern is Oak. They look site finished (no bevels). Stain color looks close to Gunstock but is likely custom made on site.

Yes, it is beadboard painted. It's durable in that location. I would not use it behind a main area such as sink or range.

It's an open floor plan, to breakfast and family room but roughly 20' by 15'. The 15' is from the front of the island in this photo to the wall directly behind it.
