West Coast HamptonsTraditional Kitchen, San Diego

The kitchen, breakfast room and family room are all open to one another. The kitchen has a large twelve foot island topped with Calacatta marble and features a roll-out kneading table, and room to seat the whole family. The sunlight breakfast room opens onto the patio which has a built-in barbeque, and both bar top seating and a built in bench for outdoor dining. The large family room features a cozy fireplace, TV media, and a large built-in bookcase. The adjoining craft room is separated by a set of pocket french doors; where the kids can be visible from the family room as they do their homework.

I believe the shades can be lowered and raised by a pulley system off to the side. This was a custom made shade brought in by the interior designer, www.Reateguidesign.com.

The island is Calacatta marble. The color and veining can vary depending on the slab.

Good morning! The island is completely custom designed by our office, and custom built by the contractor. The slab used for the countertop is from Unique Stone Imports in San Diego.

Thanks for the answer on the island. Too bad it's not an item to buy off the internet or in a store. It's a very nice island!

I like the roll-out kneading table. I am getting ready to remodel my kitchen and looking for ideas on Houzz. Although my kitchen foot print is much smaller than shown. I believe I can incorporate that design. How can I get a drawing for that design or similar? Please response also to my email. Thank you.

  • PRO
    IS Architecture

Hi dixonda, I'll respond here since I am unable to access your email address from your profile. This was a custom cabinet design specifically for that kitchen. The proportions would be very different for any other space. May I recommend showing this picture to your cabinet designer or contractor? They would be able to create shop drawings specific to your space. Or you can call our office to schedule a meeting with our Principal Architect if you would like us to do the design for your kitchen. Our number is 858-456-8555. Thanks!

The homeowner selected their own hardware, so we do not have a record of it. We can recommend checking San Diego Hardware. That's where we send all our clients for picking hardware.

Love the floors! Please what type of wood and stain? Thanks

  • franca1966

Thanks for your help. Any suggestions on stains that would look similar to the one above. I believe those floors are engineered. I am worried if I leave them natural they will look to "golden or yellow" so I would like to go darker but not too dark. My cupboards will be white and I am looking at either white granite with grey veining or quartz in that colour. Greys and whites are what I am aiming for in terms of colour. Many thanks for any advice.

  • PRO

I don't know what to recommend for you. My suggestion is to buy a few stains and do some small test areas to see how it looks in person.

Those look like spring tension rods, some of which comes in 84-90" length when fully extended. The curtain is then hooked onto the rod using very small rings.

Ummm...I didn't say a pull-out island is "unnecessary". In fact I said I'd like one. I simply made the point that building something that is too low is bad for the back. Correct working positions and counter/ surface heights are vital in a kitchen - unless all you plan to do is reheat take away food in your microwave.

  • PRO
THE FRENCH BARN - Lacanche Canada

IS made it clear that the homeowner, or at least the wife, is short and needs a lower working surface, which would be more comfortable to work on and not be "bad for her back" either. I'm sure they didn't imply that everyone should have one if they don't need it...

The ceiling height is 10’-0”. The upper cabinets from the
floor to the top of the cabinets are 9’-3”, there is a 9” soffit above the
cabinets to reach the 10’-0” ceiling height. The 10’-0” height does not
include the area above for the skylights.
