I don't think you'll go wrong with doing white tile are you thinking Subway tile? If you keep it neutral you'll be able to change other things in the room. I love my white subway tile. I used a dark gray grout as my black countertop has a lot of gray in it.

Marble look quartz backsplash would be lovely.

Like the marble herringbone pattern tiling. you could also install the subway tile in the herringbone pattern.

I would choose a backsplash that has at least some black to tie in the counter , I don't know what kind of counter material you have or your style but I don't usually mix 2 kinds of stone ,one on the counter and another for backsplash. I like glass tile with stone counters and I always think of the backsplash as the jewellery in a kitchen so I look for some thing with a little interest or bling. All white will be very boring in my opinion and reall y has no connection to the counter. These are 2 different options one a little more mordern than the other

I much prefer the simplicity of an all white backsplash with dark counters. If you are worried about visual interest, you can always choose tile with an unusual layout pattern or a mosaic of different sizes in the same tones. Then you can use smaller appliances, vases, etc. for pops of accent color rather than making your backsplash too busy. Don't worry about the black appliances. They will stand out from the cabinets, but have an echo in the black counter tops. I think the combination will look better with stainless, but in the mean time black will do fine.

I really don't think the white tile would be boring. Some people like it some don't. If you like it go for it. You can always add color with accessories. It is harder to change out tile if you get tired of it.
