Is the floor fire resistant, will it scorch from hot embers or if a piece of burning piece of wood falls forward?

I do not honestly know yet - it's ceramic, there is a texture - but no idea past that.

For safety, you need a fire resistant hearth, codes vary by state. In California we had to use a special fire-resistant brick or stone and it had to extend minimum 18" in front of fire box. In the last house we opted for a freestanding wood stove similar to the one in your photo. It sat on a pad of ceramic tile which extended 2' from the base of the stove in all directions. Laminate, vinyl, wood and similar would not pass code where we were.

The chimney/ flue may not be of the proper type either if it was not originally designed for a wood burning stove. The mantle needs to be much higher for a wood stove.

It was a wood burning fireplace, then they installed the kerosene stove. I want to remove the stove and go back to an in wall woodburning fireplace and also want to remove the "mantle" and replace with a more traditional surround and mantle.
