Here's some light yellow living rooms, different styles, all look very elegant. Depends on how you style and accessorize. Perhaps don't go too bright with the teal color in the other room, so it won't be such a contrast.

Hi---well since he's begun the paint process again, continue. For the dining room, I think it better to do a neutral wall color as shown in the first photo below. You could bring in the teal and yellow with accessories. If you want a bit of drama---paint the ceiling the blue teal hue-pic #2. If you want to keep the dining area light-hang wall paper above chair rail and paint ceiling same as living room walls. Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

Thank you very much. I love your suggestion about using the teal on the ceiling! We just moved in to this home and it is done in beiges, except the dining room was red and the living room was a dark plum. I would like to ease the beige rooms out and brighten up the rooms. The yellow was a little too bright, though!
