House & Barn Wood Siding home needs improvement

We have invested in a 5 acre seafront beautiful home with Barn conversion. I would like to improve on the exterior that has the same exterior as displayed. I don't want to degrade the integrity of the house by slapping Hardy Plank, shellac or Paint on it. Please Help.
