Is this an ice "maker" not a "machine" - so doesn't constantly make ice?

I've heard that a "maker" is quieter than an ice machine - does the ice that's made sit in the receptacle until it's lowered at which point it makes more? Thanks!

We have had both and out ice maker was much quieter. I'm not technical enough to know exactly why but we did notice a difference. It's in the same room as our dining table so we used to hear the ice machine every night during dinner. When we switched over we never really heard much noise anymore.
