I would suggest to her that she have a garage sale of the items in her room that she no longer uses or needs. That would serve a dual purpose, raising money while getting rid on some of the clutter we all tend to accumulate.

When the walls are painted, be sure to paint that vent trim that's to the right of the mirror. Rehang the mirror vertically to achieve the appearance of a higher ceiling.

For her bedding, a white quilt that is quilted in a simple pattern so that it looks more contemporary, would be a good starting place for the bedding. Then she can add pillows in the desired colors. A colored throw, folded at the foot of the bed could repeat one of the pillow colors.

The garage sale idea can work in another way. You can encourage her to find items for her room at other people's garage sales. For instance, she could have fun making a collection of mirrors to hang on the wall.
If some of them have frames, she could paint them in the colors of her pillows. Or all the frames could be painted white to go against her Caribbean blue wall color.


Regarding the paint for the walls, 3 walls could be gray and just one the Caribbean blue she wants. That way she could use a stronger blue on just one wall than what would look good on 4 walls. There's also the added benefit that in the future she could repaint the one wall a different color if in a couple of years she wants a change of color.
