I agree. I think you need to decide what you would like to keep and have it nicely shaped. On some of mature shrubs you can keep them but they also need to be shaped. This can be done in the fall by cutting everything back to the main trunk and leaving the top. When spring arrives and you see new growth cut the top to the desired height. i would also paint the garage white so it disappears. The. I wouldn't replace it with anything, Andrea Scheckel. That is an awkward spot to plant a tree so just fill in the grass area there if you remove it .
