recessed light next to a beam

Can you tell me if the light from the recessed light next to the beam is obstructed by the beam? I am planning lighting in an ongoing remodeliling of my kitchen and was told that recessed lights that are 15" away from a 6" high beam will be obstructed. Because I prefer recessed lights over pendants over an island I am interested if in this house there is a problems. thank you.

Recessed Light is over countertop, It lights up countertop area . No obstructions . Hope this answers your question .
