Must I use the same cabinet color/design as my existing cabinets?

Just found this photo...love it! Lacking enough storage in my kitchen, I've decided to add more cabinets, on a free wall (no other cabinets). I'd really like it to look like a beverage center/buffet with some elegance. My existing cabinets are raised panel/arch top in med. brown with glazing. Would really like a cream w/glazed brown for new piece. But am worried that I must I use the same cabinet color/design as the existing cabinets. Is there a rule of thumb on this?

We mix finishes, textures and door styles all the time - and we think this finish with work well with your existing cabinets!! This doorstyle also has a raised panel and the finish has a brown glaze! I think it helps that your new piece will be free-standing. Good luck with your project!

Look at sample kitchen photos on this web site. A large number of new kitchens have 2 colors of cabinets. I think you will be very up to date by adding cabinets with a different color as long as the style matches.
