I was thinking glass to let light in.

All of those should let light in, but if you want a commercial look with glass, you will need prof. glass cleaners like commercial buildings do.

Depending on engineering specs, you could install the glass railing at an above normal height........ lets say 48" and then install a glass mounted handrail at 36". The attached photo shows glass at the handrail height of 36". If you raise the glass you could eliminate the possibility of children climbing over or sliding down.
