Paint or not paint brick fireplace

House was built in 57'....complete remodel on the main floor. Living room, bathrooms, kitchen...complete. Don't have a picture to post yet, will have one soon. Just trying to get an idea of what most people are doing. The brick is original (obviously) 2x12 inch style (haven't seen that in a long time.) Please help!!! Will post picture hopefully tomorrow. Also have a 2nd fireplace in my study (which any family would probably use as a dining room) that I need to decide whether to paint or not

The easiest and least expensive option is to paint the existing fireplace and possibly modify the mantle to make it more contemporary.

Another option is to add a wood surround and fill in the exposed brick with a stone overlay.

If the brick is nice and you like it, leave it alone. If you aren't sure, you probably need to paint the brick. When other's post this same questions, 9 out of 10 times the suggestion is to paint. You're right...a photo is needed. If you think it needs painted, it probably does!
