Looking to update an odd 'L' shaped office room/play room and make it a more comfortable man cave. Open to a new couch and chairs and any suggestions you may have.

Draw a measured layout so we can see what can work in the space. Also, you need to define your particular version of man space. It looks cozy with the warm toned rug and comfy sofa, so say what doesn't work as well. And, what's the hobbit door? And what type of access needs to be maintained to it?

We just completed a loft space in Alabama for a bachelor through our on-line design service-bT2internetinteriors.com- It is for the budget conscience and do-it-yourself customer. We are located in North Carolina.

Can you take a couple more pictures from the different angles of the room? It would be easier to give a suggestion if we can get an idea of the whole picture. Basic measurements would help too.

Two easy suggestions. 1. Place your desk in the alcove where it faces into the room and not against the wall. This way you will feel less confined. This may require window treatments that keep any glare off of your computer screen etc. 2. If the room is odd shaped a sectional may be a good choice. There are nice looking (non-puffy) sectionals now that even incorporate one or two recliners into them. I think it's essential that a man cave have at least one recliner for "the man!" If you choose not to go with a sectional or sofa, again don't feel the need to put them against the wall, but do feel the need to have end tables. OKAY... 3 things... if you choose to use a rug, you may want to make it much larger to not chop the room up and give the space some continuity. My living room is a weird shape with a corner round fireplace and using a 10x14' rug allowed me to unify the space which takes away from it's awkwardness. Good luck MAN!

Whatever you decide, be sure it's something that can easily be changed from that man cave to a bedroom or office. Buyers aren't looking for man caves these days, they are quickly falling from grace.

Thank you for the advice. Attaching a few more pictures. The thought was that we would keep this as an office/play room and then turn it into a bedroom someday. We were thinking of doing a pull out couch. Love the idea of built ins but not sure how expensive that would be to add.

They make sectionals with a pull out portion - check into them at this store's link. Top Man Cave items are big comfy manly seating, refreshments and food, huge TV with accessories and televised game subscriptions. Other considerations are a poker table or stand up game like foosball or a Wii golf game.

Change the way you leave the furnitures : Never leave your writing desk to look into the wall. Put it close to the window and combine with a place to your books and office things.
Sofa with the back free of wall with a colored plaid and matching some chosen color to your walls. Color could be soft beige or powder or white.
Floors left with no carpet or just a sisal. Paint the floor grey or white shining. Paint maybe you dining area with a different color from the floor and up to 120 cm like a dado. Use a darker one maybe deep red terracotta.
Finish with new lights, 2 - 3 the same and big in diameter over your tables.
    Just a danish idea.
Even you could make a stenciled carpet to connect the interior. Choose dark grey or black on the white or grey painted floor.

Remote control retractable projector screen with a projector in an enclosed coffee table. Its easy to move later, and you can leave the screen in the ceiling (doubles as a black out curtain).
