What are the materials?

The Hermann Park (Houston, Texas) gazebo pillars are hand carved limestone from Mexico with the original quarry texture at the bases ascending to finished capitols with fired ceramic medallions at the tops. The limestone lintel is also hand carved to mate tightly with the fabricated steel base bezel which supports the hollow hemispherical rafters. The magnolia-shaped flowers contain 2300 hand-forged steel leaves in decreasing sizes to allow for the diminishing radii as the flower rings ascend. All of the steel components are hot-dipped galvanized and painted with marine enamel to counter the Houston Gulf Coast climate. Peanut lights decorate the perimeters. Wrought steel railings between carved limestone pillars complement the gazebo. Cast bronze plaques on the railing pillars illustrate cancer survivor thoughts. The commissioner was a cancer survivor. The gazebo fountain was restored and relocated from its original location in Hermann Park, which is across the way from famed M.D Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston. Thomas Studio also worked on Cancer Survivor Plazas in New Orleans, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. All were designed by Milosav Cekic Architect of Austin, Texas.
