The glass doors are beautiful. - We're considering installing a 10-12' door similar to this. Is this one wood clad? Can you please share the manufacturer and general cost?
Thank you! »
How did you get the bookshelves flush against the fireplace? -with the stone jutting in front of them? - Were the shelves built first and the fireplace was built around them? Can this effect be achieved if you already have a stone fireplace with uneven stones going around the sides all the way to the wall - and you want to add a built in bookshelf? »
Harrell Remodeling You could add a bookshelf after the fact - you would want to locate the stone facade product that matches the fireplace, "age it" so it matches and add it in sporadically on the side to blend it.
COASTROAD Hearth & Patio A good cabinet shop or fireplace professional should be able to source the mantel shelf for you. The real trick is securely attaching a cantilevered mantel like that to an existing wall, especially if it is a stone wall. That takes some professional help.
Fieldstone. This rustic family room includes a fireplace made from stones that look and feel as if they were found in an adjacent field. The wood mantel and a raised hearth beg for family gatherings. Design tip: Faux fieldstone is now available for those who are looking for a more budget-friendly alternative to this look.
We could do a stacked stone fireplace (without the heavy stone hearth in front) and side cabinetry with shelving as seen here, but I think this is what you're trying to avoid Lorna?
This is the same stonework as my fireplace. With the wood mantle and raised hearth this looks great but the built in bookshelves in a neutral tone are flanking it, not a red brick wall!
