Media Decor Cutting into the stone is messy, but not that big of a deal (hire stone mason). If you recess the tv, it will obviously need some type of back support. The thickness of the stone and flue position should be figured out first.

The front of the tv should be about .25" proud of the highest point of the stone. Finish off the TV with a 3-4" wide picture frame. The gap between the back of the frame and the stone will essentially become a shadow.

If cutting into the stone is not possible, bring in a good carpenter and have him spile a wooden back to support the tv mount. As above, finish with a frame. If you are very fussy, have a return on the left and right sides of the frame that may be spiled to the stone and/or faux painted ((bring in a faux painter) on the side to match the stonework.

It is worth the effort.

You will have to run the cabling through the fireplace to a remote location and have all your components there. A good A/V dealer can do this and use a remote IR or RF control system to control everything.

FauxPanels™ If you were using faux/simulated stone paneling instead of real stone then you could potentially mount the TV directly onto the panels (given the correct mounting and support) or panel around the TV installed into the wall. We've received a few customer photos of similar concepts. Hopefully they can help with some more inspiration on how to get this look in your home.

Design Freedom, inc. this stone looks like a veneer (thin stone) installed over the drywall/sheetrock. so the cables & wires run behind the drywall, and the TV is mounted directly to the wall. if this is a masonry fireplace, there is block or brick behind the drywall. but this is probably a fireplace unit, and the wall is probably wood stud frame.

kathy32850 I have a NO vent fireplace with my cable box, dvd player, & tuner above with the tv in a nook. There is a mantle which you would think would direct the heat waves away, but it doesn't. There is also a small switched fan on the side of the FP...it still gets too hot and shuts the cable box down because it gets above 140 degrees. If I didn't have a reclining chair the tv would be too high for comfortable viewing. This is not an ideal configuration IMHO.
