Refinished 61" 1913 Incarnadine Red Wolff Cast Iron Porcelain Cast Iron Clawfoot Bathtub Package
New Faucet, Drain & Overflow
In the early 19th century, plumbing reemerged with the installation of underground sewage in much of Europe. Claw foot tubs, initially made of tin or copper, were first produced using cast iron and porcelain enameling in 1873. The company now known as American Standard, along with Kohler, began to enamel the interior to achieve a smooth finish. Before the use of this method, interiors were merely painted, which led to issues like peeling. The newfound enameling technique offered a solution to various maintenance issues.
The first claw foot cast iron tub was first commercially produced in America in 1883 by the Standard Sanitary Company (now American Standard) by using their new method. Early versions of the tub were sold for other purposes, including horse trough or hog scalder in part because of the large size of the tubs. Gaining fame from the mid 1800s, the luxurious soaking prospects found in claw foot tubs began to catch on.
Increasing prominence allowed for variation in the style. The Roll Top or Flat Rim is the standard that is most commonly seen today. The Slipper is less common and has one side higher than the other. Even rarer is the Double Slipper which has both ends raised, and a dip in the middle. These designs are more ergonomic, allowing for better reclining and relaxation.
Peaking in popularity between 1910 through 1920, claw foot tubs have made a comeback because of their quality and timeless beauty! Lending to their charm is the ability for personalization. Owners can easily customize the color to reflect their personal style and occasionally even change out the feet. The grandeur of the clawfoot tub begets a magnificent focal point for any bathroom. The indulgent soak and design offers a spa-like atmosphere. Claw foot tubs are nothing short of classic, which never goes out of style.
This Vintage Roll Top Claw Foot tub was professionally refinished by re in Crowley, LA and features new fixtures by Kingston Brass. All fixtures and drains are set up for Schedule 40 Plumbing (the most common), so renovations are a snap. The finish on the tub has a 5 year warranty. The interior and clawfeet are Bright White while the exterior body is painted in Incarnadine Red.
