asianinsp Thank you for the advice that is perfect however my hubby has thrown a wrench in my initial plans. Who said compromise is good?! *chuckle* He would like to use "plum" instead of teal. I can not live with "purple walls". Maybe in the window treatment. I now have to revise and look for new inspiration. The color scheme plum red and tan, asian inspired. Go figure!
cmilburn I have four panels like these that I purchased about 10 years ago in a Chinese Arts Shop. Then, they were not expensive but now they probably cost a lot more. Mine have inlaid mother of pearl birds and cherry blossoms. I would try an Asian Art store online. San Francisco has several places that sell this kind of art. They are gorgeous!
Lily Gahagan We have several ideabooks that tackle this very topic, with headboards ranging from screens and wood slabs to one made out of book covers!

There's something enchantingly modern, yet traditional about this Asian inspired bedroom. China blue walls paired with traditional eastern wall panels, red accents, and gleaming white bedding is like the Qing dynasty brought to the 21st century.
The right art. Using art is always a winning choice. I love how the 3 Oriental panels with red tones are displayed on a turquoise wall with matching painted frame. Then the red and white in the picture panels are picked up again in the lamp and throw pillows. This room looks pulled together and professional. You can switch out the art within the frame and matching throw pillow when the mood strikes.

Placing the red lampshade on a white lamp set against brilliant blue walls was a brilliant move! The colors are repeated on the panels hung above the bed, while white linens balance this abundance of strong color.
... Or enveloping bedroom. With cherry red, there's nothing sleepy (re: boring) about this place, yet the inky tone instantly makes my eyelids heavy — in a good way.

This room shows how well the combination works with Asian-inspired design. The chinoiserie panels and pagoda-shaped lamp base add Far Eastern flavor. Yes, I realize this hue is just a little more peacock than turquoise, but who could resist including this lovely bedroom?
