The Gentleman's Valet Chest is a Chest designed as a valet, for organizing and storing the various necessities of today's man. The exterior is crafted from a rare sampling of Curly Birds Eye maple veneer, while the interior is made from quarter cut Makore. This cabinet is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) as being made primarily from wood that was harvested in a sustainable manner from a well-managed forest. This cabinet holds 7 drawers that are designed to store shirts, socks, briefs and ties. In the upper drawer there are special trays intended to hold cuff links, fountain pens, wrist watches and even loose change. Inlaid into the top of this cabinet is a design of a turtle, which was inspired by an aboriginal rock glyph. This image is symbolic for several reasons. Turtles are deeply revered in many ancient cultures and civilizations because they are one of the oldest forms of life and the shell is symbolic of protection. A turtle also does not move very fast, which is indicative of the need for patience. The wood used to make this inlay carries a special provenance in the world of sustainable forest management because it comes from the last remaining board known to exist of the very first wood to be sustainably harvested on the Solomon Islands in the early to mid-1990s. This wood made its way into America by way of Eco-Timber in California.
